PhoCUS AGM - 09/05/09

The Annual General Meeting will be held in Winstanley Lecture Hall on Saturday 9th May between 17:00-19:00 and take the form of an extended photoshare/informal meeting. All are welcome to attend, preferably with photos or comments on how we can improve the society’s services. We would also welcome advice on how to run the 800th Anniversary Photo Exhibition, set to happen in October and November 2009.

Photoshop Workshop - 07/03/09

PhoCUS is planning to hold a Photoshop workshop on Saturday 7th March at 4pm, in the Munby Room of King’s College.

Our very own Thomas Endlein will be running through some photoshop techniques and tricks on editing photos, so you can fix rubbish photos or turn good ones into BRILLIANT ones. There’ll be tricks for photoshoppers of all degrees of skills and experience, so do come along!

Visit from the President of the RPS

A Royal Photographic Society accreditation workshop, given by the President of the RPS Dr Barry Senior, will be happening in Caius’ Bateman Auditorium on Friday 13th February from 15:00 onwards. For those of us thinking of trying for a Licentiate or Associateship with the RPS, this is an event not to be missed! At least 10 photographs should be brought as part of your portfolio to be examined - either in print, on CD or on memory stick. There is just 1 slot left!

There will be a talk afterwards in the Bateman at 18:00, to which all are invited.

“The Ghost in the Machine: Spirit and Camera” - CHANGE OF PLACE

Time: 17:30-19:00

Place: Rylands Room at King’s College

Our final talk this term by Prof John Harvey, ‘The Ghost in the Machine: Spirit and Camera’, will explore the complex relationship between the representation of spirits and the nature of photography - in particular, examples of “spirit photographs”: pre-photographic images and photographs of apparitions.

Rylands Room is hard to find, so look out for signposts… ask at the Porters’ Lodge if you’re not sure.

Talk by Drew Gardner - Lighting and Location

Our third talk this term is by Drew Gardner, a finalist in the 2008 Hasselblad Finals.  He will be talking about his epic location photography and his use of lighting, as well as  the future of professional photography and how students can get into the business.
